스릴러, 미스터리, 연애소설, 로맨틱 서스펜스 등의 다양한 장르에 속하는 작품이다. 단순하게 말하면 어두운 과거를 가지고 있는 신참 FBI 요원이 컴퓨터, 프로파일링, 격투기에 뛰어난 선배 요원과 함께 Serial killer를 잡아가는 이야기를 다루고 있다. 여주인공과 밀접한 관련이 있는 'String killer' 사건을 중심으로 Kidnappers, Nursing home murders, Toaster killer 같은 사건들이 작품을 더욱더 흥미롭게 하고 있다. 주요 등장인물들의 성격이나 행동들이 독특하기 때문에 작품이 끝나기까지 또 다른 반전의 이야기가 있지 않을까 하는 생각으로 계속 읽게 만드는 작품이다. 표현이나 문장이 무난한 편이기 때문에 진도는 잘 나가는 편이다. 전작인 The Cove 보다는 재밌게 읽은 거 같다.
