Daisy Dalrymple comes from a titled family, but after her brother was killed in the Great War ..." 등의 이런 저런 외국 독자들의 반응이 있다. 큰 독자층을 형성하고 있는 작가는 아닌거 같다. 시대배경이 1차대전이 끝나고 히틀러가 등장하는 시기이기 때문에 현대물이라기 보다는 고전물에 가깝다. 하지만 시대를 이해하고 읽으면 읽을 만하다. 책 표지에 나오는 인물이 이 책의 주인공이다. 정적이고 서술적인 코지 미스테리 작품이기에 동적인 묘사나 장면등은 별로 없다. 완만한 이야기 전개와 뻔한 결론으로 가는 과정은 지루했다. 이 책을 읽기 전에 가능하면 미리 보기를 통해서 취향이나 개인적 수준에 맞는지를 확인하기 바란다. 시대가 시대이니 단어가 독자에 따라서 어려울 수 있다. 개인적으로는 아가사 크리스티의 미스 마플이 더 좋다.  핵심어는 Victorian view of morality, class, murder, blackmail, jewel robbery, skate, stepson, stepmother, ignorance, estate, slander, run away, extenuation, love 등이다.
