 이 책은 'Brooklyn' 이라는 여자 주인공이 등장하는 시리즈물이다. 전에 'Homicide in Hardcover' 라는 작품을 읽었는데 여주인공의 직업이 'bookbinding' 과 관련이 있어서 더 큰 흥미를 가지고 읽은 기억이 있다. 코지 미스테리 장르에 해당하기에 편안하게 읽을 수 있는 작품이고 등장인물들의 개성이 잘 들어난다는 점에서 비교적 잘 쓴 작품이다. 하지만 이 책도 다른 흔한 작품들에서 나타나는 단점들을 극복하는데는 실패한 부분이 있는거 같다. 다행인것은 다른 작가들처럼 쓸데없이 이야기를 장기적으로 끌고 가지는 않는다는 것이다. 적당한 길이의 작품이다. 문장이나 표현도 무난하고 "Edinburgh Book Fair 를 중심으로 묘사되는 장면이나 내용은 이 책의 재미를 더하는거 같다. 핵심어는 jealousy, bookbinding, book fair, cheating, love affair, freemason, royal secrets, family problems, psycho, various books, divorce, murder, blackmail, chasing, thief 등이다.
