"書評などで、Page turnerという形容があるが、この本はピッタリな表現だと思う。冒頭に起こった事件、被害者と犯人は言うに及ばず、捜査するひとたちの家庭、人生模様も物語にきちんと書かれており、誰が犯人かという謎解き以上の面白さがある。イギリスの海岸地方の風景やドメスティックバイオレンスがこの物語では重要な意味を持つが、前者はその情景描写が大変美しく、後者は心を打ちのめす恐ろしさで対照的。

요즘은 책을 읽는 다는 것이 힘든거 같다. 집중하기가 힘든 시기인거 같다. 실존적 어려움에 처해 있는 사람들과 세계의 모습을 보면서 허구를 다루를 문학작품들은 그 존재론적 의미가 약해지는 건 어쩌면 당연한 건지도 모르겠다. 정말 긴 시간동안 읽었다. 출퇴근하면서 보통 책을 읽는데 ... 요즘은 책보다는 유투브같은 매체에 집중하게 된다. 이 책이 재미가 없다기 보다는 코로나 19 에 대한 이야기나 영화같은 국내외의 뉴스들을 보는데 더 많은 시간을 보내고 있다. 이 책은 등장인물들의 심리묘사가 뛰어나고 장편이지만 독자들이 계속 읽게 만드는 매력이 있다. 영어문장도 비교적 무난하고 편집도 읽기에 편하다. 그리고 저자가 전직이 경찰이라서 그런지 사실적이고 큰 무리가 없는 전개라서 읽기에 좋았다.
