"本作はクリスティーさんの数は少なく、好みも分れる国際陰謀物です。世界の支配を企む組織がロンドンのありふれた若い女性の運命を翻弄するという展開ですから、1951年刊という東西冷戦緊張下という時代背景を考慮に入れても、話自体はおどろおどろしい。しかし、主人公のこの女性、ヴィクトリア嬢は罪のない嘘つき常習犯、仕事は不熱心、イケメンにすぐお熱、と軽薄ながら行動力もある下町娘で、ユーモアたっぷりに描かれている。イケメンを追ってバクダッドくんだりまで出かけたところで謎の殺人事件に巻き込まれる、というところがクリスティーさんらしい。あやしいアラブ人とか遺跡発掘とかのお得意の異国情緒もふんだんに味わえる。作品の評価としては、いつもの謎解きを期待する向きには3つ星でしょうが、愛と冒険の小説家クリスティーさんを考慮して、星1プラスで4つ星か。英語も俗語がなくて読みやすい ..." 

이 작품도 포와로나 미스 마플이 등장하지 않는다. 좀 모자라는(?) 여자가 이 작품의 주인공이다. 개인적으로 좋아하는 캐릭터는 아니지만 작품이 전체적으로 코믹하고 스파이 장르적 요소가 이 작품을 재밌게 하는 거 같다. 문장도 비교적 쉬운 편이라 읽기에 큰 부담이 없는 책이다.
