If the Shoe Kills by Lynn Cahoon
"I have read the first two books in this series, Guidebook to Murder and Mission to Murder, the next book in the series, If the Shoe Kills, didn't disappoint either. This is been a great series so far by author Lynn Cahoon, and on top of that it's been a great holiday Mistry to get the spirits up for the holiday season, I enjoyed reading about Jill, Toby, Amy, Greg, Jackie, and the rest of the cast. This time Mistry is that everybody in Southcove is feeling the holiday spirit, and it's the seasons for gratitude and murder. Southcove's holiday festivals is in spring and within the local businesses decide to extend there gratitude by bringing in the less fortunate to work at their shop through a ready to work style program. In which Jill decides to take part of and also organize, until she has to deal with the programs egotistical sexist pig of a director, Ted Hendricks. So with the assignments and any worker in place with local businesses ( including Coffee, Books and More taking on one of these temp workers, which they call interns.) All the business owners and sign-up seem interested in happy in this program except for Marie Jones the owner of the local glassmaking shop, thebGlass Slipper, other than that everything is good. That is until Jill decides to bring her beau, police detective Greg King a romantic picnic lunch, and happens to find Ted dead in his car, who apparently committed suicide, but it's not. So once again Jill decides to meddle in a murder investigation, because she's the one who found the body, deal with the mayors inept bossy wife, who is in charge of planning the holiday peace festival, organize a book drive, plan Thanksgiving, and run her business..."
액션 장르를 읽다가 코지 미스터리 작품을 읽으니 좀 밋밋한 느낌이 든다. Lynn Cahoon 작가의 Jill 시리즈 세 번째 작품이다. 오랜만에 읽어서 그런지 작품의 초반에는 인물들의 성격을 파악하는데 어려움이 있었다. 하지만 읽다 보면 전작을 읽지 않아도 될 정도로 작가가 작품 속에서 과거의 이야기를 해주기 때문에 이해하는데 큰 문제는 없다. 크리스마스 축제를 준비하는 과정에서 생기는 다양한 갈등들, 인물들 간의 애정 갈등, 인턴사업과 관련된 이야기들, 과거에 유괴되어 죽은 줄 알았던 전 부인과의 만남 등이 주요 이야기이다. 문장이나 구성은 비교적 쉽기 때문에 진도가 잘 나간다. 소소한 재미를 찾는 독자들에게는 좋은 작품이다.
