코리 미스터리 장르의 장편이다. 하지만 무난한 표현과 구성은 이 작품의 장점이고 읽는데 큰 부담이 없다. 주인공이 책과 관련된 일을 한다거나 고양이가 등장한다는 점은 다른 코지 미스터리하고 비슷하다. 그런 점에서 참신함은 좀 떨어진다. 하지만 고양이들이 이야기 전개에서 차지하는 비중이 상당히 크고, 주인공의 사건 해결 참여와 경찰들의 비중이 잘 조화를 이루고 있다는 점에서 지금까지 읽은 다른 코지들에 비해서 좋은 거 같다.
