두 건의 살인사건.... 하나는 ''Blood is thicker than water'라는 이유의 살인, 다른 하나는 그 반대의 이유로 인한 살인이다. 중장 편에 속하는 장편이지만 시드니 셀던 작품을 읽어본 사람이라면 충분히 읽을 수 있는 수준의 작품이다. 문장이나 표현이 무난하고 글의 구성도 지루하지 않다. 특히 다른 코지 미스터리 작품들에 비해서 고양이가 차지하는 비중이 상당하다. 사건을 해결하는 데 있어서 고양이는 주인공에게 많은 힌트를 주기도 하고 글의 전개에 있어서 지루함을 줄여주기도 한다.
