어느 사회든지 이런 저런 이유로 편견 차별과 관련된 언어들이 존재하고 그 속에서 우리는 의식적 또는 무의식적으로 그런 차별적 행동을 하기도 한다. 더 나아가 정치적 이유, 경제적 이유, 문화 사회적 이유, 정체성의 이유 등을 내세우면서 차별적 행동을 구조화시키는 경향이 있는 것이 사실이다. 이 책은 흥미롭다. 구조적 인종차별에 대한 저자의 주장은 설득력이 있다. 다만 마음을 열고 읽지 않으면 이 책 또한 비난의 대상이 될 수도 있는 거 같다. 인종 차별하면 미국이나 남아프리카와 관련된 작품들을 주로 읽었는데... 이 작품은 영국의 이야기다. 영국의 인종갈등 문제를 역사적 문화적 정치적 경제적 사회적 관점들에서 잘 설명하고 있다. 많이 배웠다. "Because history is written by the winners, evidence of police harassment of people of colour in the nearly 1980s is hard to come by..." "I wondered how often history would have to repeat itself before we choose to tackle the underlying problems." "I appreciate that the word structural can feel and sound abstract. Structural. What does that mean? I choose to use the word structural rather than institutional because I think it is built into spaces much broader than our more traditional institutions...." "It's this idea that to eliminate race, you have to eliminate all discourse....... colour-blind conservatives to say, 'if we really want to get beyond race, we have to stop talking race...." 이런 장르의 다른 작품들에 비해서 문장이나 표현들 자체는 난이도가 높은 것은 아닌데 ... 문법적인 부분에서 재밌고 신선한(?) 부분들이 좀 있는 거 같다.  'THERE'S NO JUSTICE, THERE'S US"
