2002년에 출간된 책이다. 세계를 이해하는데 큰 영향을 준 작품이지만 논쟁이나 부정적인 비판을 많이 받는 작품이기도 하다. 저자가 주장하는 내용들이 지금 어떻게 전개되고 있는지 비교해보는 것도 좋은 공부가 될 거 같다. 볼프강 헤르레스 와 클라우스 -뤼디거 마이의 "책 vs 역사"라는 작품에서 이 책을 '현대' 분야에서 중요한 의미를 차지하는 작품으로 뽑고 있다. 사실 영어공부를 목적으로 읽기 시작했던 작품이지만 개인적으로 재밌게 읽었던 기억이 있다. 문장이나 표현이 어렵다고 느끼는 경우가 많은데.... 개인적인 생각에는 그렇게 난해한 문장들은 아닌 거 같다.
