When the breadcrumb trail leads to its ultimate reckoning, the details of that particular element are sometimes summed up in a single, enigmatic paragraph lacking detail. This is simultaneously a missed opportunity on the part of the author to add additional dimensions to these comp!ex characters and a testament to the strength of the story which leaves readers yearning for more. I hope that Lesil and her colleagues make another appearance in future books, proving further that librarians so much more than we imagine......"

책의 커버를 보고 일본 서적인 '비블리아 고서당'을 생각했다. 읽으면서 좀 실망스러웠다. '비블라아 고서당' 하고는 분위기가 전혀 다르고 작품의 구성도 상당히 다르다. 그리고 지금까지 읽은 도서관 배경의 다른 작품들하고도 분위기가 많이 달랐다. 미스터리적 요소는 있지만 코지 미스터리 계열이나 본격 미스터리 장르 하고도 다르다. 도서관에서 근무하는 사람들, 대학에서 근무하는 사람들, 책에 관심이 많은 사람들에게는 읽는 즐거움을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 작품 속에 등장하는 인물들 간의 '정치'적 요소는 지루하다. 문장이나 표현은 집중력을 요구하는 편이고 장편이기 때문에 미리 검색을 해보고 읽기 시작하는 게 좋을 듯하다.
