The Old Success by Martha Grimes

I enjoyed seeing what was going on now with them now as well as unraveling the current mystery. One reviewer complained that there were too many characters to keep track of. I've made that complaint myself for many books since I read at bedtime. But it wasn't a problem for this mystery in part because most characters I was familiar with from the past books. If this is your first book by Grimes, you should start with her first Richard Jury book......."

Martha Grimes의 작품을 처음으로 읽었다. 나름 유명한 거 같은데 ... 이번에 처음으로 그녀의 작품을 읽는 기회를 가졌다. 작품 초반에 등장하는 인물들, 연속적으로 이어지는 과거와 현재의 살인 사건들의 열거, 가끔씩 등장하는 낯선(?) 문장들의 나열, 누가 주인공인지 의심되는 인물들 간의 비중, 이런 장르의 다른 작품들에 비해서 과학수사의 낮은 비중, 작품의 시대적 배경에 대한 의문 등 읽으면서 이런저런 생각을 하게 만드는 작품이었다. 시리즈 초반 작부터 읽는 것이 이 작품을 더 잘 즐길 수 있지 않을까 하는 생각을 했다. 신기한 점은 이런 단점들이 있지만 진도는 잘나가는 작품이라는 것이다. 한국의 맛있는 음식(?)과 한국전쟁에 대한 이야기가 작품에 등장한다.
