The Escape Artist by Brad Meltzer

비밀임무나 군사적전 중 죽은 군인들 및 국가안보와 관련된 사건으로 죽은 사람들의 장례를 돕는 사람이 이 작품의 주인공이다. 즉, mortician 이 주인공이다. 대통령의 지인과 미군들을 태운 비행기가 알래스카에서 추락하는 장면에서 작품은 시작된다. 장례를 준비하던 중 보고된 인물과 실제 인물이 다르다는 것을 알고 주인공은 사건을 추적한다.... 과거의 시간과 현재의 시간이 섞여서 작품이 전개되고 과거의 인물들과의 예상과 다른 만남과 새로운 갈등의 전개가 작품의 반전이다.  시리즈의 시작이라서 그런지 인물들에 대한 이야기가 많아서(물론 필요한 부분이지만....) 좀 지루한 부분이 있다. 장편이고 문장이나 표현이 원서 경험이 적은 독자들에게는 부담이 될 수 있는 거 같다.
