코지 미스터리 장르에 해당하는 작품이다. 이 작품 이후로 시리즈가 계속 나올 거 같다. 작품이 전체적으로 유머러스하고 인물들 간의 관계도나 사건을 풀어가는 과정이 재밌다. 시리즈의 시작을 알리는 작품이라 작품의 중반까지는 인물(개)들의 성격이나 환경에 대한 이야기가 많다. 좀 지루한 내용이지만 유머스러운 표현들이 많아서 웃으면서 읽을 수 있다. 후반 이후로는 코지 미스터리의 성격 안에서 긴장감이나 흥미를 유지하면서 읽을 수 있어서 좋았다. 다만 반전은 약하다. 그리고 어떤 면에서 보면 열린 결말로 끝난다. 다음 작품을 읽어야 한다는.... 문장이나 표현도 무난하기 때문에 진도가 잘 나가는 편이라 장편이지만 장편 같지 않다. 본문에 재밌는 표현이 있어서 적어 본다 "It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts."
