Detachment, but not inaction....." 나이가 들어간다는 것에 대해 고민하는 사람, 시간이 너무 늦게 간다고 고민하는 아이, 젊음을 계속 유지하고 싶어 하는 사람, 미래에 대한 두려움과 과거에 대한 후회로 고민하는 사람등과의 만남으로 '시간'에 대한 답을 찾고자 여행을 떠난다는 얘긴데.... 갑자기 사라진 Old Monk를 찾아 여행을 하면서 사람들을 만나기도 하고 다양한 시간에 관한 꿈들을 꾸면서 '시간'에 대한 의미를 찾아가는 작품이다. 전에 이 작가의 'Hector and the Search for Happiness'를 읽은 적이 있는데 비슷한 콘셉트의 작품인 거 같다. 다만 이 작품이 좀 더 철학적인 이야기를 많이 다룬다는 것이 좀 다른 것 같다. 여러 명의 철학자나 과학자 또는 수학자 같은 사람들의 '시간'에 관한 이야기가 나오고 작품의 주제와 연관되어 등장하기 때문에 좀 집중해서 읽어야 하는 책인 거 같다. 어려운 단어들이나 난해한 문장은 별로 등장하지는 않지만 가끔씩 관용적 표현들이 있기 때문에 인터넷의 도움이 필요할 수도 있을 것이다.
