A disappearance. A missing brother. A lawyer asking questions. 한국작가 편혜영 씨의 작품 '서쪽 숲에 갔다'를 영어로 번역한 책이다. 심리 미스터리적 작품이라고 말할 수 있고 호러적인 요소도 다분 가지고 있는 작품이다. 하지만 작품을 읽기가 쉽지는 않다. 영어의 문제를 떠나서 작품자체가 가지는 상징적 장치적 요소가 딱 와닿지 않는 부분들이 있기 때문이다. 단순한 실종자 찾기도 아니고 진실을 파헤치고 파헤쳐지는 그런 요소도 뚜렷하지 않기 때문에 읽다가 좀 헤매는 경우가 있다. 한국어책을 읽은 분들의 글도 참고했는데... 비슷한 느낌인 거 같다. 아마 그런 느낌자체를 작가는 작품 속에서 추구하지 않았을까 하는 생각으로 책을 끝냈다. The Owl Cries 은 4번째로 읽은 작품이다.
