One of the writers ends up dead and then another one. Someone is a killer, but who? Annie and Max work together to figure it out...." " Easy, light read. Young likable main characters. Granted the main character owns a mystery book store but there are too many references (for my taste) of other notable and not so notable mystery writers and their books. Begins to seem forced and I find myself skipping over those parts. Not on par with a Christie, James, or Grimes, but entertaining enough that I will read the series. Should read the books in order so the life changing events stay in sequence......"

'Death on Demand'는 여주인공이 운영하는 미스터리 장르전문의 서점을 말한다. 서점을 둘러싼 살인사건과 콜드케이스가 이야기의 중심을 이룬다. 확증편향의 형사, 여주인공을 돕는 남자친구, 과거와 현재의 사건들에 얽혀있는 주요 인물들의 미스터리한 이야기 전개, 연속적인 의문의 죽음, 협박, 섬을 중심으로 한 트릭과 범죄구성 등 미스터리적 요소도 눈에 띄지만 유머러스한 전개가 중심인 미스터리 소설이다. 시리즈의 첫 번째 작품이기 때문에 작품의 성격을 하나로 말하기 힘들지만 코지 미스터리의 특징을 잘 보여주는 작품이다. 작품의 편집구성은 읽기 쉽게 되어 있지만 등장하는 표현이나 문법적 구성은 좀 난도가 있을 수도 있다. 작품의 배경이 되는 장소들에 대한 삽화들도 있기에 읽는데 도움을 받을 수 있다. 본문에 있는 "It was exactly as Hercule Poirot always inssited: the character of the victim revealed the identity of the murderer."라는 문장이 인상에 남는다.
