"Although not a huge fan of spy novels, I had heard good things about Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon series and decided to give the first three books a read because I'm always looking for exceptional series to discover. I'm always intrigued by the loner hero and Allon, an art restorer by trade, sounded like an interesting character to check out. "The Kill Artist" was certainly an intelligent and complex read with complex characters and plotlines. Gabriel Allon was a hard character to get to know inasmuch as his character is so detached and self-punishing for past sins. Puppetmaster Ari Shamron was a favorite character of mine because he has so many layers to plumb. Art dealer Julian Isherwood was a lovable but drunken wastrel. However, the notion a beautiful, high-profile supermodel as an undercover agent was completely unbelievable; she had spent most of her supermodel life snorting coke, bed-hopping..."

장편 스파이소설이다. 주인공은 Gabriel Allon 이라는 은퇴한 이스라엘 요원인데 현재는 예술작품을 복원하는 일을 하고 있다. 그래서 책의 제목이 'The Kill Artist' 인지도 ... Gabriel Allon 이 등장하는 시리즈의 첫 작품이라서 그런지는 모르지만 책의 많은 부분이 인물들의 과거에 대한 회상과 설명이 많다. 이 책의 핵심줄거리만 본다면 이렇게 장편일 필요가 있을까 싶다. 솔직히 주인공 보다는 테러리스트인 Tariq, 중개역의 Yusef, 특히 매력적인 여자 스파이 Jacqueline 은 더 인상깊은 인물들이다. 책의 종반 부분에 등장하는 Arafat 와 Tariq 의 대화 내용도 좋은거 같다. 초반에 인물들이 많이 등장하기 때문에 읽기에 힘들지만 읽다보면 문제는 없다.
