"最後まで事件の真相がわからなくて、ハラハラしつつも面白かったです。しかもね、ずーっと緊張感が漂っているのではなくて、ユーモラスなシーンもあるので、バランスが取れているなあと感じました。あと、登場人物が結構いるのですが、個性がはっきりしているので「この人って誰だっけ？」と言う事が起こらずに、するーっと読めました。翻訳本が苦手な私には珍しい事でした。私はマースが好きだったかな。パパのポールも紳士で良いです。でもソフィはウルフが良いのねー。私と趣味違うのねー、なんて、そういう楽しみ方もありました。女性ではソフィも好きだけどナターシャが複雑そうな人で興味ありました。もっと知りたいわ。読んでいると時々、普通の文字とは違う太い文字で、雑誌に掲載されたソフィやナターシャのアドバイスの文章が出てくるのですが、絶妙に予言していたり、同じ事をしていたりして面白かったです｛読み直してみるとその事がもっと良くわかりますよ｝フェイという、この家の前の持ち主の写真が暖炉の上にあるのですが、絶妙に揺れたりキラリと光ったように見えたりして自己主張してきます。ひっそりと全てを見守ってくれているような感じ。まったく怖くない幽霊、という感じです。これからもさりげなく居てほしものです..."

지금까지 읽은 코지 미스터리 작품들 중에서 가장 많은 사람이 죽는다. 살인미수에 해당하는 사건은 두건이나 된다. 액션물이 아닌데 이렇게 전개되는 코지는 많지 않을 듯싶다. 중간중간에 등장하는 음식에 대한 이야기를 제외하면 글의 흐름이 매끄럽다. 특히 각 Chapter 간의 이야기의 연결은 이 책을 계속 읽게 만드는 중요한 장치이다. 각 Chapter 가 끝나는 부분에 다음 이야기의 중요한 내용이 등장하기에 읽지 않을 수 없다. 전체적으로 유머러스한 내용 전개가 좋고, 가족적인 분위기, 미국 문화의 측면들을 조금이나마 엿볼 수 있어서 좋았다. 부담 없이 읽는 작품이다.
