Death of a Gossip by M. C. Beaton

"I started reading about Hamish Macbeth after I had read all of the Agatha Raisin books. He is as annoyingly addictive as she. Quick and easy read mysteries although I have to say I prefer the books in the beginning of the series and feel that some of the later storylines are clutching at straws and a bit second rate as far as storylines go but I have got quite fond of the characters and will continue to read as and when a new book comes out which the author is probably banking on....." "I bought this having exhausted all of MC Beaton's Agatha Raisin series - which I loved. I didn't expect to like this series as much, but I do! If you want some light escapism, with some tongue-in cheek humour, and a likeable protagonist (Macbeth), then this is for you. I am hooked and am now wading my way through the series. MC Beaton certainly knows how to pen an addictive series of books ...."

좀 특이한 인물하고의 만남이었다. 시골에서 근무하고 있는... 개인적 이유로 근무할 수밖에 없는 'constable' 즉 순경이 주인공인 작품이다. 사람에 따라서 다양한 각도로 볼 수 있는 인물이다. 사실 편하게 돈 버는 책임감 없는 경찰로 보는 이들도 있지만 읽다 보면 사람에 대한 이해가 깊고 관찰력이 뛰어난 인물이다는 것을 알 수 있다. 문장은 기존의 다른 작가들의 작품에 비해서 까다로운 부분들이 좀 있다. 문장을 이해하는 데는 큰 문제가 없기 때문에 읽을 만하다. 'fishing' 수업에 참석한 인물들 속에서 발생하는 사건이기 때문에 'fishing'에 관한 내용이 가장 많다.
