"このシリーズ、結構ゆるい感じに殺人事件が始まり、経過し、終わるので、リラックスタイムにはもってこいの小説なんだけど、最近だんだんレシピに割くページのほうが多くなってきちゃって、ストーリーつきの料理本みたいになってきちゃいました。もちろん、お料理が好きな人にはぴったりだし、登場人物のおおくはみんな愛すべきご近所たちで、目が回るようなどんでん返しはないけどすごくアットホームな気分にはさせてくれます。第一話目からゆっくりゆっくり進んでるヒロインとその恋人たちの進展も、ペース的には現実的。荒唐無稽なラブロマンスや息をもつかせぬサスペンスが好きな人にはちょっと退屈かも。でも、一日の終わりにお風呂の中でのんびり読むにはうってつけだと思いますよ...." Everyone is surprised at Martin's sudden marriage, especially his ex-wife Shirley and his mother Babs. They had both thought Martin might be going to remarry Shirley. They weren't too thrilled to see Brandi wearing a $25,000 fur coat and an even more expensive engagement ring. Things start getting really exciting when a blizzard starts and everyone is stuck at party, and then Hannah stumbles over the body of Brandi, stabbed with an antique cake knife, in the parking lot....."

이번 작품에 대한 전반적인 불만은 미스터리적 요소가 약하고 요리책의 분위기가 많이 난다는 것이다. 다양한 케이크, 디저트, 요리등이 등장하기 때문에 요리의 레시피나 묘사가 작품의 많은 페이지를 차지하고 있다. 상대적으로 살인 사건에 대한 이야기는 좀 부족한 면이 있다. 크리스마스, 마을 축제, 댄서, 결혼, 이혼, 후회, 골동품 칼, 반지, 불륜, 눈보라, 질투, 임신, 출산, 사기꾼, 도둑, 과거, 사진, 요리책, 비싼 선물, 운명의 만남, 이름 등이 작품을 이해하는 중요한 의미를 가지는 단어들이다. 'Pigs fly(그럴 일 없다)' 같은 관용표현들이 좀 등장하는 거 빼고는 문장들이 난해하지 않아서 읽기에 편하다. 다만 이런 음식 관련작품에 흥미가 없는 독자는 지루하게 느낄 수 있다.
