Maise Dobbs 시리즈 7번째 작품이다. 전작들에 비해서 좀 더 어려운 문장과 표현들이 등장한다. 1930년대 영국이 배경이고 영국적인 색채가 짙은 표현들이나 말투들이 등장한다. 이전 작품들처럼 반전이나 이야기의 전개에 있어서 독자들을 당황하게 만드는 부분들이 있고 이야기를 끌어 나가는 주인공의 시선이 따뜻하다는 점은 이 시리즈의 장점이다. 다만 주변적인 이야기 많기 때문에 이야기가 늘어지는 느낌은 있다.
