"映画あんを観て、感動して、すぐに読みました。大変読みやすいきれいな文章です。例えば、聞くを訊くと書くなど、ドリアン助川さんの言葉のセンスもよく、読んで良かったと思います。映画同様、素敵な作品です。映画の場面を思い出しながら読み進めると、ああ、あの場面はこういうことであったのか、或いは、原作はこうだけど、映画では少しニュアンスや解釈が違ったな、などと比較、対比できるので、そこも楽しみつつ、作品をより深く理解することが出来ました。希林さんの含蓄のある言葉は小説ではより深く述べられていてよかったです。この小説を基にした映画の映像は、木漏れ日や光、風など、小説の文章同様、とてもきれいなものでした。それに樹木希林さんの深みが加わって、人が本当に生きるということを、深く考えさせられるよい作品です。映画、小説、ともによいです。人生には、人が生きるということ、また生きる意味について、ふと立ち止まって考えるような時がありますが、そんな時にこそお勧めする珠玉の作品です...." "Who knew that a story centred around a confectionery shop selling Dorayaki (a pancake with a "Sweet Bean Paste" filling) could serve such delicious wares together along with such beautifully presented sentiments, like time passing as visualised by the changing seasons of Cherry Blossom trees. From the first buds of spring to the delicate, pink petals drifting on the wind, attention unexpectedly falls upon a trio of unrelated characters from three different generations. Despite the fact that each are coping with their own problems, in their own quiet spaces, in their own private way, they form an unlikely bond. Through their tentative steps we learn that every one has the potential to contribute to something greater. This serendipitous and profoundly grounding tale begins to gently loosen the emotional and physical ties that hold them back so they can spread their wings and fly, but not in the conventional sense. Its calm narration packs a gentle punch and is very easy to feel at ease in the characters’ company. They are wonderfully memorable and their stories, particularly Tokue’s, gave me cause to stop and reflect....."
