Long Road to Mercy (An Atlee Pine Thriller Book 1) by David Baldacci

"Not all famous novelists can always create a "fascinating" whodunit. I have read Baldacci's books, 40, give or take, so far. Most of them have given me a lot of inspirations; I admit that some are not "interesting" to me. Since I'm Japanese and my mother tongue is Japanese, I come across some difficult expressions, but I am a great fan of Baldacci. The new FBI agent, Atlee Pine, is a badass woman to me. I'm rooting for her AND David Baldacci......" "  I loved the book and the character of Atlee Pine and her side kick Carol Blum. My favorite Baldacci series was the Sean King & Michelle Maxwell series. I also liked John Puller a lot. This books reminds me of those series. I'm glad that Baldacci introduced another strong (albeit flawed) female character. Atlee Pine's flaws explain her life choices and make her more likeable and more real. Nobody gets through life unscathed and Atlee had it worse than most. She's no Nancy Drew and is more "realistic" character to mature women. Certainly most of us are not as scarred or as tough as Atlee, but that doesn't mean such women don't exist. I have seen enough to know that life can be particularly hard on some people, and that people's life choices are often defined by those hardships....."

가족소설, 스릴러, 미스터리, 액션 장르에 해당하는 장편 소설이다. 북한, 러시아, 핵폭탄, 평화회담, 추적, 전쟁유발, 그랜드 캐넌, 쌍둥이, 암살자, 유괴, 노새, 암호, 추적, 도망, 동굴, 연쇄살인마, 협상, 배신자 등이 중요한 의미를 갖는 단어들이다. 어려운 표현등이 없는 건 아니지만 이야기를 방해하는 정도는 아니고 문장구조가 무난한 편이기 때문에 진도가 잘 나가는 편이다. 그랜드 캐넌의 유명한 장소들에 대하여 검색하면서 읽었기 때문에 시간이 좀 걸리긴 했지만 읽는데 많은 도움이 된 거 같다. 여성주인공인  Atless Pine가 등장하는 시리즈의 첫 번째 소설이기 때문에 인물들에 대한 주변적인 이야기가 페이지를 좀 차지하고 있다.
