"don’t go into this book expecting a thriller—this is more of a cat-and-mouse mystery, than anything.." 이 책의 배경이 영국의 조용한 마을이고 여자형사가 주인공이라는 점에서 형사 베라하고 비교하면서 읽었다. 두 주인공 모두 나름 장점을 가지고 있지만 개인적으로는 베라 형사에게 더 정이간다. 아무튼 진도가 잘 나가는 책이고 적절한 구조와 반전을 보여주는 책이다. 또 좋은 점은 책에 등장하는 영국식 영어단어에 대한 설명이 있다는 것이다. 미국독자들을 위한 설명이라고 하지만 영어원서를 읽어야 하는 모든 사람들에게 영국영화나 영국 드라마를 보는 사람들에게 좋은 참고가 될 수 있다. 핵심어는 역시 family affiars, psychopath, domestic violence, dating violence, control, murder, adoption, teamwork, vengeance, leadership, a false charge 등이다.
