THE WORLD IN SIX SONGS by DANIEL J. LEVITIN

allybanrun 2020. 10. 23. 00:20

"This is an entertaining read, very easy to get through, and plenty about it was endearing and appealing on a very approachable level - Levitin writes pretty readable stuff in trying to make the case for why humans have music, and what it means to us as thinking beings. I was left slightly disappointed, however, because it just wasn't convincing. The author aims to classify all music into one of six different types (for friendship, for information, for joy etc.) but the whole thing left me with so many questions and aware of so many holes in his arguments that.. as a non-fiction, as a scientific book, it just didn't have the authority. I wanted more facts, more 'we have proved that this type of song elicits this response via brain imaging', more factual content. What it ended up feeling like was an entertaining read with lots of appealing ideas, the author choosing to illustrate things with anecdotes ..."

흥미로운 책이다. 음악이 우리 삶에 어떤 영향을 주는지를 역사적 인문적 사회학적인 면에서 다양하게 설명하고 있는 책이다. 저자는 다음과 같이 말하고 있다 "Music is important in the daily lives of most people in the world, and has been throughout human history. Anyone who wants to understand human nature, the intereaction between brain and culture, between evolution and society, has to take a look at the role that music has held in the lives of humans, at the way that music and people coevolved." 이 문장은 이 책을 잘 설명하고 있는 거 같다. 그 외에도 좋은 문장들이 많다. "What role the musical....... In short, how did all these musics make us who we are ? " "anthropologist Clifford Geertz .... is not what all musics have in common, but how they differ...." "Why does music have such power to move us?.... because of the way that medium and meaning combine in song, the combination of form and structure uniting with an emotional message." "... musical brain.... the first is perspective-taking... the second is representation... the third is rearrangement.... " " The World in Six Songs is the story of just how music has changed the course of human civilization, in fact, the story of how it made societies and civilizations possible." "... the music that will never die has been with humans since we first became humans. It has shaped the world through six kinds of songs : friendship, joy, comfort, knowledge, and love... " 문장이나 표현이 무난한 편이기에 음악애 대한 인문학적 지식을 얻고자 하는 독자들은 도전할만한 책이다.
