이 작가의 작품은 두 번째다. 특히 이스라엘 정보요원인 Gabriel Allon 이 주인공인 시리즈의 18번째 작품이다. 첫 번째의 작품에서는 현장요원이었는데 이 작품에서는 이스라엘의 정보부 수장으로 나온다. 다양한 스파이 관련 작품들을 읽었지만 이 작품은 읽는데 좀 더 노력이 필요했다. 사실과 허구를 구별하기가 힘들 정도로 이야기가 사실적이다. 영국, 미국, 이스라엘, 러시아의 정보기관들에 대한 설명이나 묘사가 사실적이다. 어떻게 작가는 이런 정보를 얻었는지 궁금해하면서 읽었다. 러시아의 이중 스파이를 영국으로 탈출시키고자 하는 이스라엘 주도의 작전이 이중 스파이의 죽음으로 끝나고 만다. 여러 정보기관들이나 언론들의 비난속에서 주인공은 작전의 실패의 원인을 찾고자 한다. 계속해서 밝혀지는 이중 스파이들의 놀라운 정체들은 이 작품을 더 흥미롭게 한다. 지금까지 읽은 다른 작가들의 스파이물에 비해서 스파이들의 말투나 표현들이 읽기에 쉽지 않다.
